Our Bear Activity - Jack

We learned about what bears eat and how they survive by pretending we were bears. We had go outside and collect squares Mrs. Forrest scattered all over the field. They had letters and numbers on them and put them in an envelope, our den.

When we came in the classroom we found out the squares meant food and water, and how many pounds. We had to figure out if we had enough squares to survive. I didn't. I didn't even have a water source until we traded. When we cooperated, people gave their extras to people who didn't have enough so they could survive.

We learned that this is like our food drive because we give food to others who don't have food and money.

It was fun because I liked seeing Hunter be a blind bear.

Show, Don't Tell - Happy - By Aspen

Today we worked on painting a picture with words. We brainstormed what a person looked and sounded like when they were happy or excited. Then they rewrote the sentence: SHE WAS HAPPY.

Here's Aspen's:

"Yes!!!" I cheered Circle C seals have just won first place! We were just at the University of Texas to do the finals!I was smiling and clapping hard! The crowd was cheering "Yea!" It was amazing!

A Little Bit of Everything - by Hunter

First we did spelling groups, group A did their pre-test, group B did mountain language, and group C and
D did wordo.  Next Mrs. Forrest read us a book that I thought that was a really good, it was a traditional
literature family.  After that we did a very famous thing in Mrs. Forrest class called silent reading.  I'm reading a Texas Bluebonnet Award  nominee called MUDSHARK.

                                    Hi mom
                           Thank you for reading

Today We "HOOKED" Our Readers!

We were learning about starting a story with a good beginning:

Here's a sample of our finest - we revised the sentence:

One day I went to the pool.

Ethan: Bump. "Are we there yet?" I said, yelling from the car.

Nicolas revised his own story's beginning:

It was: One day we were at Disneyland.

He changed it to: "Are we there yet? HOORAY! We're here!" I shouted. We were at Disneyland.

Aidan B. created a new story and knew to put in some details and have someone talking to start his piece:

"Let's go to that house," I said. I pointed to a house that had a broken window. We were trick or treating and it was the last house of the night. We went to ring the doorbell, but the door was ripped off and we could see inside.

Here's Ryan's revision of: One sunny day I played with my friend: "Are you ready to play Ryan?" said a voice from upstairs.

They are finding that good beginnings are what get the reader excited to read. They look at the beginnings of chapters they are reading for ideas.

FABULOUS!
